This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Machinery Center of Excellence and Expertise (MACH-CEE), Laredo Field Office, Laredo, TX . Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise in managing one of the divisional processes:
Enforcement, Partnership, or Validation and Compliance at a Center of Excellence and Expertise (Center). This position starts at a salary of $110,531.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $143,688.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $143,688.00 (GS-14 Step 10). In this Assistant Center Director position, you will be responsible for managing activities to accomplish the CBP trade mission, to include collection, summary review and validation process, and trade enforcement actions associated with the importation and exportation of merchandise involved in international trade. Typical work assignments include:
Providing oversight of daily activities as well as the import/export of cargo/merchandise and international mail compliance involved in international trade Directing the national trade policy and national trade program functions of CBP, fostering management by account, and providing uniformity and clarity for the development of CBP's national strategy to facilitate legitimate trade Coordinating with senior level law enforcement managers to manage and approve significant enforcement actions including criminal investigations and prosecutions Managing development of national policy and processing strategies unique to an assigned industry while ensuring national policy implementation is monitored and evaluated with uniformity Advising public and trade community on CBP policies and procedures with informative outreach programs partnering with government agencies, trade community, trade associations
Experience:
You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Supervising, managing or directing operational import/export programs and their appropriate support functions Directing local policy and program initiatives related to import and export of merchandise and cargo Handling all supervising procedures concerning the import and export of merchandise and cargo to the U.S. (including characteristics of items imported/exported to determine or verify classification, value, and property of transport) for processing and control of cargo related work activities are preferred. Negotiating with different parties to help resolve conflicts, grievances and appeals. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 07/17/2020. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
