The Staff Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care to Veterans referred for Mental Health services within the Psychiatrist's approved privileges. In addition to Veteran care, the Psychiatrist may have responsibilities in other areas such as education and research. The Staff Psychiatrist conducts initial psychiatric evaluations, follow-up visits, consultations, group therapy/treatment, medication management, crisis assessment and intervention to Veterans. Psychiatrists are capable of assessment and treatment across the full spectrum of DSM 5 diagnoses. Modalities of care include face-to-face interventions as well as telemental health (TMH). The incumbent may provide cross coverage to other clinical sites throughout the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System via telemental health as needed. The Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric care in an outpatient setting, identifying Veterans' mental and medical health needs and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs. He/She serves as the medical subject matter expert within their assigned team and may be responsible for coordinating activities of other health service personnel, resolving problems affecting Veteran care, and providing appropriate education for the Veteran and/or family members regarding the Veteran's care, condition, and its management. Care is provided in accordance with VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines as measured by the Peer Review Program and various quality metrics. In addition to the above, Psychiatrists are responsible for:
adhering to all applicable VACO, VISN and VATVCBHCS policies, rules and regulations and to the VATVCBHCS Medical Staff Bylaws; to provide team-based leadership in the application of clinical practice to organizational processes and/or systems improving outcomes at the service level; to achieve excellent customer satisfaction; to assure compliance with clinical practice guidelines and to work collaboratively with others; to foster systems that promote state-of-the-art acute, chronic and preventive Mental Health care; for performance improvement process; to keep abreast of changes as appropriate; and to serve on committees as assigned. Also, Psychiatrists who are involved in teaching programs and research are responsible to provide an environment supportive of education, training and research. Work Schedule:

Not required This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. For foreign medical graduates, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physicians are generally not required to be board certified for employment in VA; however, three circumstances in VA require physician board certification:
If the position being filled is required to be a supervisor for medical students or physician residents (including fellows), the LCME, ACGME or AOA standards requiring a particular board certification credential will apply If the position being filled will have faculty status with an affiliated medical school (for example, in joint recruitments with affiliated medical schools), then a medical school requirement for board certification will apply to the jointly recruited position. If the position being filled is required to be board certified by virtue of specific VHA policy (for example, as director of a cardiac catheterization laboratory or Director of Clinical Laboratory Medicine), then VHA policy requiring board certification will apply. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Such employees are considered to have met the basic qualification requirements for the purposes of transferring or reassignment to another physician position within VA. Employees who were appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective date of the qualification standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed, on a temporary or permanent basis, until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard. If a physician who was retained under this provision leaves the occupation or VA employment, the employee loses protected status and must meet the full VA qualification standard requirements in effect at the time of reentry or reemployment. ABPN Board eligible, within 5 years of completion of residency Current experience treating Veterans with breadth of DMS-5 disorders (i.e. general psychiatry experience) Experience providing care via telehealth ABPN Board Certification current or participating in MOC Job history reflecting employment lasting greater than 1 year per position Reference:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
