AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Laredo Sector Headquarters, Mission Readiness Operations, Fleet, Laredo, TX This position will allow you to use your expertise in automotive repair and maintenance. This position starts at a salary of $29.49 per hour (WS-10, Step 1) to $34.43 per hour (WS-10, Step 05). This position will allow you to use and share your expertise in automotive repair and maintenance. Your major duties will include:
Planning, assigning, and directing work for a sector vehicle maintenance unit Scheduling and approving leave, setting performance requirements, making performance appraisals, planning and initiating training, and maintaining production reports and records Supervising everyday equipment maintenance and heavy equipment operation Troubleshooting, repairing and/or overhauling major automotive components Establishing yearly priorities and goals relating to the utilization and operation of all Agency equipment used for Border Patrol operations Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. To minimally qualify for the WS-10 grade level, you meet the Screen Out elements:
Supervising other employees as a regular assignment. Supervising technical work including the troubleshooting and repairing of automotive systems in accordance with technical manual in a safe environment. To meet screen out elements, you should have experience performing the following duties:
Supervising the performance of preventive maintenance on vehicles Supervising the troubleshooting and repair of vehicle systems Maintaining records and vehicle logs; writing and completing vehicle work orders Conducting safety inspections; ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and procedures (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc) Setting performance requirements and conducting informal/formal performance evaluations; resolving minor complaints or referring more serious situations to a higher authority In addition to the experience described above, you will be evaluated on the basis of your overall level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas:
Knowledge of hazardous materials/waste and their production, uses, interactions, dangers, handling, storage and disposal. Ability to provide guidance or assistance to lower-level employees in diagnostics, use of shop tools and equipment, proper repair procedures and safety. Ability to prepare and maintain paperwork including but not limited to vehicle maintenance records; safety and environment records; time and attendance; and work orders. Ability to use technical reference materials and technical manuals to troubleshoot/diagnose malfunctions in automotive components or systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 04/09/2020. There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
