Laredo, TX Laredo, TX Full-time Full-time $38,397 a year $38,397 a year 15 hours ago 15 hours ago 15 hours ago Description The Mental Health Specialist will perform advanced paraprofessional services in one or more of the following; provide case management for a complex client caseload in a jail setting; provide group and individual counseling for emotional, drug, alcohol or other mental health problems assessed on County inmates; or provide in-service training to Jail management and medical jail staff.
Employee will be required to comply with all State and local laws as they pertain to care of county inmates with mental health problems.
Examples of Duties Provide direct mental health care to county inmates.
Observes patients physical adn psychological status; helps evaluate progress; records clinical notes on patients.
Assists professional staff in developing and modifying treatement plans; implements treatment plans.
Provide basic client counseling in grops as well as on an individual basis.
Performs administrative duties as required.
Performs other duties as assigned by Jaill Commander or designee.
Qualifications Must have a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, preferred.
Possess as a minimum one (1) year of experience in a skilled mental health care facility, hospital, or other related medical health facility.
Supplemental Information Ability to communicate English and Spanish.
Willingness to work in a high risk environment.
Ability to evaluate mental health issues of inmates.
Willingness to work in a confined security lock up.
Observe security measures.
Treat combative inmates; sometimes intervene in fights, or suicide attempts.
Counsel inmates and family members on related mental health issues.
Identify MHMR inmates.
Strong organizational skills.
Posses leadership ability and the willingness to work with and supervise professional and nonprofessional personnel.
Knowledgeable of mental health practices and procedures.
Possess mental and physical health.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
